The 2007 Global Compact Leaders Summit will be not only a carbon-neutral event, but we aim to offset an additional ten percent of the total emissions created. The travel of over 1,000 participants to Geneva will produce approximately 2,000 tons of CO2 equivalents, equaling the average emissions generated by a three-person household over 70 years.

In accordance with the Global Compact's 8th principle which states that "businesses are asked to undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility", the Global Compact Office strongly encourages all participants to contribute to the fight against global warming and to set a good example.

The CO2 emissions produced by participants' travel and attendance will be offset with the purchase and retirement of a mixture of Gold Standard CERs (Certified Emission Reductions) and Gold Standard VERs (Verified Emission Reductions).

The voluntary contribution for each participant amounts to USD 36. Those participants that choose to offset their emissions will be acknowledged at the Leaders Summit and in the relevant event materials. The contribution collected will support the financing of four projects in India, Indonesia and Madagascar.
